Star Wars fans around the world have been eagerly anticipating news about the upcoming Disney+ series, The Acolyte. At the recent Star Wars Celebration event in London, fans finally got their first look at the highly anticipated series, which promises to explore the mysterious and rarely explored period in the Star Wars timeline that precedes the Skywalker Saga. In this article, we’ll delve deeper into what we can expect from The Acolyte, including its time period, setting, and plot.

Time Period and Setting

Unlike many of the recent Star Wars shows and movies that have focused on the Skywalker Saga or its aftermath, The Acolyte takes us back to a time long before the events of those stories. Specifically, the series is set around 100 years before the events of Episode I: The Phantom Menace, during the High Republic era. This was a time of great prosperity and power for both the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic, but as we know from other stories in the Star Wars universe, it was also a time of great danger and intrigue.

Plot

The plot of The Acolyte centers around a Jedi Knight and her former master, who reunite to investigate a series of mysterious crimes happening across the galaxy. As they delve deeper into the investigation, they uncover a sinister plot that suggests the Sith Order may have been hiding in plain sight all along. Along the way, they encounter a variety of characters, including a Neimoidian who may hold the key to understanding how the Sith Order gained its influence over the Trade Federation, and a figure in a dark costume who seems to be a Sith assassin.

First Look

During the Star Wars Celebration event, fans were treated to a first look at The Acolyte, which provided some tantalizing glimpses into the series. The footage showed Lee Jung-Jae’s character, the former master of the Jedi Knight, training younglings in the Jedi Temple, before cutting to a fight between the Jedi Knight (played by Amandla Stenberg) and Carrie Anne Moss’s character. Lee’s voice can be heard saying, “Close your eyes. Your eyes can deceive you.” This suggests that the Jedi may be facing a foe who is able to manipulate perception in some way.

Cast

The footage also showed Dafne Keen in an as-yet-unknown role, as well as the mysterious figure in the dark costume who seems to be a Sith assassin. This figure is seen stalking Jedi and even hunting them down in the shadows, suggesting that the Jedi may be facing a powerful and dangerous new foe.

The first look ended with a shot of a group of Jedi all lighting up their lightsabers, while a quote played over the footage: “This is about power and who is allowed to use it.” This quote hints at the larger themes that The Acolyte will explore, including the struggle for power and control that underlies much of the Star Wars universe. We don’t yet know whether the quote is referring to the Jedi or the Sith, but it suggests that the series will delve deep into the political and power struggles that were happening during the High Republic era.
