Celine Dion has disclosed that she has Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS), a rare neurological condition with autoimmune disease-like characteristics.

The 54-year-old Canadian singer explained to her 5.2 million Instagram followers that her disease causes uncontrollable muscle spasms.

She said that it has made it difficult for her to sing and walk, which means she won’t be able to perform at scheduled concerts in the UK and Europe next year.

“Recently I’ve been diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder called the stiff person syndrome which affects one in a million people. While we’re still learning about this rare condition, we now know this is what’s been causing all the spasms I’ve been having,” Dion said.

“Unfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal chords to sing the way I’m used to. It hurts me to tell you today that this means I won’t be ready to restart my tour in Europe in February,” she added.

Who is René-Charles Angélil?

René-Charles Angélil was born on January 25, 2001, to singer Celine Dion and her husband René Angélil.

As his social media names suggest, René-Charles, commonly known as RC among his contemporaries, also goes by the name Bigtip. The eldest child of Dion and René Angélil, Catwalks, Loft Music Remix, Never Stop, The Apple, and The Kid are among the five singles that he posted on SoundCloud in 2018. Catwalks reportedly had the most plays that year with over 100,000, according to Vice. However, it’s reasonable to say that the rapper’s musical taste differs slightly from that of his mother.

He released videos of The Weeknd’s concerts on Instagram in addition to a photo he posted with the musician. His prior tracks suggest that he is a major admirer of the artist’s talent. In 2021, Angélil’s mother happily shared his debut record, CasiNo. 5, on her social network.

She wrote, “I’m so proud of my son. My love for him is so strong, and it touches me deeply that one of his passions is also one of mine.”

Those who have been watching Dion’s recent concerts shouldn’t be surprised by Angélil’s musical preference. He frequently expresses his support for his amazing mother, and in 2017 he appeared at her performance of Michael Jackson’s Black or White at the Accorhotels Arena in Paris. He may be seen rapping on the big screen, while Dion’s twins Nelson and Eddy also briefly appear.

At the Billboard Music Awards in 2016, René-Charles presented Dion with the Icon Award.

René-Charles gave a moving eulogy in 2016 at the funeral of his father René Angélil, who tragically lost away from throat cancer.

As a tribute to his father, he kept many of these interests with him. “Fifteen years is not a long time for a son to get to know his father. You had a busy life, but we were communicating through golf, hockey, poker and smoked meat … and a lot of other wonderful food, bonding more and more as time went by,” he remarked.

Even though they were residing in Las Vegas, Angélil was destined to grow up playing hockey thanks to his Canadian parents. Dion has always made time despite her hectic job to watch her son play for the Nevada Storm club.

Angélil has been seen playing golf, and according to a previous article in The Times of India, he regularly conducts poker nights at his house. “Today, thanks to sport, mainly golf and hockey, he has lots of friends. Some of them are even invited to the house for sleepovers, poker parties or video games. I like to have a bunch of teenagers in the kitchen making crepes. He’s 15 years old, I don’t handcuff him. He’s young, he must live,” Dion told to Paris Match magazine in an interview in 2017.

It may be quite stressful for an aspiring artist to be the son of one of the best singers in the world, to put it mildly. He admitted this in a tweet from 2018 that included the words “Damn I got so much pressure to make it big in this industry,” but he also included the word “motivation” to show that he was determined to succeed.

René-Charles, Nelson, and Eddy are Dion’s three children, and she frequently posts pictures of them on her Instagram. She celebrated RC’s 21st birthday by posting a throwback photo of him as a newborn earlier this year. Due to difficulty conceiving, the My Heart Will Go On singer had to undergo IVF therapy; as a result, RC was born after numerous attempts.

Despite the fact that Dion’s spouse is no longer with them, her profile shows every facet of her family life. It’s obvious that Dion and her three sons are close to holiday images, including those from Halloween and Christmas, Disney vacations, and mother’s day events.
