Jason Momoa is an American actor popular for playing the role of the DC superhero Aquaman.

Joseph Jason Namakaeha Momoa is the son of Coni (Lemke), a photographer, and Joseph Momoa, a painter. He was born in 1979, in Honolulu, Hawaii

Momoa was raised in Norwalk, Iowa. He moved to Hawaii after high school. He then made his TV debut in the series Baywatch (1989). 

In 2001, Jason Momoa moved to Los Angeles. He starred in ‘North Shore’ in 2004 and played “Ronon Dex” in the TV series Stargate: Atlantis. Six years later, he played the Dothraki king, Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones. 

Momoa has played Arthur Curry/Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) since 2016, starring in the eponymous 2018 film and its 2023 sequel. Momoa also appeared in the 2021 film adaptation of the science fiction novel Dune as Duncan Idaho.

Momoa started dating actress Lisa Bonet in 2005. Although Momoa and Bonet were thought to have married on November 15, 2007, the couple did not tie the knot until October 2017. Bonet gave birth to their first child, a daughter, in July 2007. In December 2008, their second child, a son, was born. Momoa and Bonet confirmed their separation in January 2022.

Momoa studied martial arts in preparation for his part as Ronon in Stargate Atlantis. Momoa began training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu in 2017.

He loves heavy metal music and says he “build[s] [his] characters off of metal songs.” He invited Archspire members to make cameos in the first episode of the TV series ‘See,’ and he also practised a precise screaming technique with Archspire vocalist Oli Peters for a significant scene in the series.

Momoa was featured in the black metal band Scour’s song “Doom” on October 30, 2020. Momoa is a hobby musician who enjoys playing bass guitar, mandolin, ukulele, and guitar, the first of which he learned after hearing Tool’s song “Sober.”

Momoa has multiple tattoos, including a half-sleeve dedication to his family god, or “aumakua,” on his left forearm.

He took part in protests against the construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope on Mauna Kea, a sacred spiritual location for native Hawaiians.
