Veteran South Korean actor Kim Min-Kyung passed away on August 16, aged 61. She took her last breath at a hospital in Seoul. Soon after, her funeral took place on Wednesday. Her agency DaHong Entertainment later confirmed the news through a Korean media outlet. The cause of her death is yet to be announced. 

Who was Kim Min-Kyung?

Kim Min-Kyunk was one of the most popular South Korean actors who debuted in the year 1979 as a theatre artist. The actor had bagged several awards during her active years in the industry, including the Best Newcomer Award at the 1981’s Korea Theatre Festival. The actor had featured in over 40 projects during her lifetime.

Some films she had starred in include ‘Evil Twin’, ‘Where The Truth Lies’ as well as ‘Hello Stranger’.

She was often seen playing the role of the protagonist’s mother in K-dramas. Some of her popular shows include ‘The Moon Embracing The Sun’, ‘When The Camellia Blooms‘, ‘Diary Of A Prosecutor’. She was seen in the thriller series Mouse, which ended in May. The ‘Eomoni’ of K-dramas was last seen in the crime drama ‘Pipeline’, released in June. She will now be featured in her upcoming thriller drama, ‘Spiritwalker’, which is scheduled to release later this year. Helmed by Yoon Jae-Geun, the film took home the award for excellence at the New York Asian Film Festival.

Kim Min-Kyung will also be seen in ‘Boston 1947’. The release date is still under wraps. However, it is expected to go on the floors later this year. 

Actor Kim Ha-young took to her SNS account to pay tribute to the late Kim Min-kyung. She posted a few photos along with a caption that read, “Teacher, and my mother, who was grateful for a while.”

She continued, “It was a short time, but I was very grateful to be able to work with the teacher as a mother and daughter in a work called ‘String’. I will not forget the warm image of the teacher and keep it and work hard. I wish you peace in the sky, Mr. Kim Min-kyung, who was a ‘string’ to me.”
