The
Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction is around the corner. Delhi Capitals
will look to build their squad around their four retained players – Rishabh
Pant, Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw, and Anrich Nortje. The franchise is yet to win
the IPL. Their target will be to build a well-balanced team that will stand a
chance to win the coveted T20 league.

Here
are five players Delhi Capitals must buy in the mega auction
Kagiso
Rabada
South
Africa’s Kagiso Rabada is one of the finest death overs bowlers in contemporary
cricket. He proved his worth as a fast bowler more than once. In IPL 2020, he
picked up 30 wickets in 17 matches at an average of 18.27, which included two
four-wicket hauls. His ability to keep batters in check and take wickets in
regular intervals make him a player to buy for Delhi Capitals.

Shikhar Dhawan
The
left-hander was one of the mainstays of the Delhi top-order and given his
ability to build the innings, he should be one of the few players Delhi
Capitals should target to buy in the mega auction. Dhawan has accumulated 1726
runs in the past three years for Delhi which includes 12 half-centuries and two
hundreds.

Aaron
Finch
Australia’s
T20 World Cup-winning captain Aaron Finch is a hard-hitting opening batter. The
right-hander can be Dhawan’s perfect opening partner. The right-left combo will
keep bowlers guessing throughout their innings. Finch can also help young
captain Rishabh Pant whenever the situation arises.

Trent
Boult
The
New Zealand fast bowler will be in Delhi Capitals’ target in the auction. The
left-arm seamer is known for his wicket-taking skills. In 2018, he picked 18
wickets in 14 matches. However, in 2019, he played only 5 games and picked 5
wickets at an average of 32.60. He was thereafter traded to Mumbai Indians in
2020 but once again Boult delivered a power-packed performance which may now
force the Delhi Capitals of bringing him back into the side.

Mohammed
Shami
Team
India fast bowler Mohammed Shami was not retained by Punjab Kings. As he will
be available for buying in the auction, Delhi Capitals should target him to
form a deadly pace attack, comprising Nortje, Rabada or Boult.
