Amid a massive surge in COVID-19 cases, Uttarakhand has cancelled the state board exams for class 10, state Education Minister Arvind Pandey said. The exams for class 12 have been postponed and the new dates haven’t been announced.

Earlier, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had also cancelled the board exams for class 10 and postponed those for class 12. Several other states, which include Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Gujarat, have also either postponed or cancelled the exam.

India is witnessing a massive surge in coronavirus, with more than 200,000 cases being reported daily for four days in a row. As many as 261,500 new cases of COVID-19 and 1,501 deaths were recorded on Saturday, which pushed India’s total tally to 14,788,109, including 177,150 deaths.

Uttarakhand is also witnessing an upsurge in cases, with the state recording its highest single-day spike on Saturday with 2,757 cases.
