Srinagar’s St Luke’s Church, located in the Chest Diseases Hospital’s campus on the southwest slope of Shankaracharya Hill, opened its doors for the public to offer prayers after 30 years.
As per the reports, reconstruction work on the Gothic-style church was started in April 2020. It was renovated by the J&K Tourism Department under the Smart City Project, which accounted for Rs 90 lakh.

The church was built during the British rule. Dr Arthur and Dr Ernest Neve, brothers and missionary hospital doctors, lay the foundation stone in 1896. In the 1960s, it was handed up to the Government of Jammu & Kashmir. The church was decommissioned owing to escalating radicalism in the area.
