The police action against individuals for putting up posters critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has drawn flak from Twitter users, with the hashtag #ArrestMeToo trending on the platform in the wake of the arrests made in Delhi.

The Delhi Police arrested at least 25 people and has filed as many cases under the Defacement of Public Property Act and Section 188 over the posters that are critical of the government’s handling of the COVID-19 crisis that have come up in the national capital.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted the poster with the caption, “Arrest me too”.

The poster reads, “Modi ji, why did you send vaccines meant for our children, abroad?”

“The poster asked a simple question. Even before the PM could answer, the loyal Delhi Police answered with ARREST,” Congress leader P Chidambaram said in a tweet.

Meanwhile, his colleague Jairam Ramesh said, “Putting up critical posters against PM is now a crime? Is India run by the Modi Penal Code now? Is the Delhi Police so jobless in the middle of a raging pandemic.”

“I am putting up posters on my compound wall tomorrow. Come get me,” Ramesh dared.
