With six more deaths being recorded on August 4, the death toll due to the Bihar flood stands at 19, reported PTI report. The flood has affected more than 63 lakh people across 16 districts in the state. More than seven lakh people in the state have also fallen victim to the inundation caused by rivers primarily originating in Nepal. The districts of Saharsa and Madhepura have also been affected by the floods.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas on Wednesday and took stock of the situation.

According to the Disaster Management Division of Ministry of Home Affairs, 39 more villages and 3,96,000 people have been affected due to the floods in the last 24 hours.

The Central Water Commission has also issued a Red Warning to the areas of Bishunpur and Rosera in the districts of Darbhanga and Samastipur in Bihar. According to the Commission, Adhwara, Burhi and Gandak rivers are all flowing above the previous highest flood level. 

The bulletin issued by the Disaster Management Division Ministry of Home Affairs also states that the state of Bihar has received 778.2 millimeters of rain till date and the districts of Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Supaul, Kishanganj, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, East Champaran, West Champaran, Khagaria, Saran, Samastipur, Siwan and Madhubani have been adversely affected.

More than 440,000 people have been evacuated and 28,664 have taken recourse to the 38 relief centres opened by the government.

While infrastructure damage and crop area affected are yet to be evaluated, the loss caused by the floods are evident. The Centre along with the National Disaster Response Force have provided 23 teams to provide assistance to the flood-affected state.

Similarly, the State Disaster Response Force has 11 teams working to provide assistance to the flood-affected people.
