Amid the devastating surge in COVID-19 cases, a tweet by Bollywood actor Anupam Kher has stoked controversy. Responding to a journalist, who accused the PM Narendra Modi-led government at the centre of “missing in action” as the country faces “biggest post-partition crisis”, the 66-year-old actor said that the pandemic is a challenge for all nations and that he has gone overboard with his criticism of the government.

So far, it was fine but the last punch of his tweet was what led to a debate and trolling on social media. He ended the tweet with “aayega to Modi hi (Modi will return)”.

The tweet by Anupam Kher came in response to the post by senior journalist Shekhar Gupta.

The actor’s punch line on Modi was not taken in good taste by the users on microblogging site, who hit back asking if he could dare say this standing in front of hospitals where so many people are dying for lack of oxygen, beds and medical help.

Some of the users, however, tweeted support for him, to be precise for PM Modi.

Anupam Kher, an ardent supporter of PM Modi, has often voiced support for the ruling BJP government. His wife Kirron Kher is a Member of Parliament from the party.
