Chief Secretary (Home) of the Uttar Pradesh government Awanish K Awasthi on
Saturday met the family of the Dalit teenager who was allegedly gangraped and
killed in Hathras, assuring them of stringent action against the guilty.

 “We met the family of the victim and assured
them that stringent action will be taken against the guilty. SIT is
investigating the case. Statements of the family members being recorded,” ANI
quoted Awasthi as saying during a press conference.

Uttar
Pradesh Director General of Police HC Awasthy was also among the delegate of top officials to meet the victim’s family today. The delegation will submit their report to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath upon their return to state capital Lucknow.

The DGP refused
to comment on questions pertaining to allegations that permission was not sought
from the victim’s family before police performed the deceased victim’s last
rites, reported ANI.

Earlier today,
Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were allowed to cross
the Delhi-Noida-Direct (DND) Flyway en route to Hathras, where they will meet
the victim’s family.

from entering Uttar Pradesh, a day after the two were briefly detained en route
to Hathras.

The 19-year-old
woman was allegedly gangraped in Hathras village on September 14 and was taken
to Aligarh hospital in serious condition. She was then referred to Delhi’s
Safdarjung Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
