Virat Kohli on Thursday congratulated MS Dhoni after the 40-year-old stepped down as Chennai Super Kings’ skipper and handed the baton to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja

Earlier in the day, the four-time IPL winning franchise announced that Jadeja will be taking on the reigns in the 2022 season.

“Legendary captaincy tenure in yellow skip. A chapter fans will never forget. Respect always,” Kohli wrote on Twitter.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman had also stepped down as captain after last season to manage his workload. He is no long India’s skipper in any format. RCB appointed Faf du Plessis as their captain for the 2022 season.

For the first time in 15 years, IPL will not see either Dhoni or Kohli leading a side. The two last locked horns as captains on September 24, 2021 when Chennai defeated Bangalore.

Meanwhile, former India and RCB wicketkeeper Pathiv Patel congratulated Dhoni.

“As always with #MSDhoni, the timing of his decision is superb. Great way to pass the baton and #jadeja can learn a lot when #Dhoni is still around behind the wickets. #captainforever #Dhonism #IPL2022.”

Reacting to being announced as captain, Jadeja said that he understands that Dhoni has left a big legacy behind.

Feeling good, at the same time, I also have to fill in big boots. Mahi Bhai has already set a big legacy so I need to carry it forward,” Jadeja said in a video posted by the Chennai Super Kings on their social media.

“I do not need to worry too much because he is here. Mahi Bhai will be my go-to person. He was and he still is today. So, I am not worried, thank you for your wishes and love. Keep supporting us,” Jadeja added.
