Punjab Kings skipper KL Rahul on Wednesday became the fastest Indian to score 5000 T20 runs. The 29-year-old needed one run to reach the milestone as he came out to bat against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He scored four runs in six deliveries before being dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

KL Rahul took 143 innings to score 5000 T20 runs, 24 less than Virat Kohli. The Indian captain who reached the milestone in 163 innings, held the record since 2016. 

Rahul has 2,808 IPL runs from 76 innings so far including two centuries and 23 half-centuries. Kohli, on the other hand, leads the IPL charts with 5,949 runs from 187 innings.

KL Rahul has scored 161 runs in the four matches this season. He scored 91 runs in the season opener and a half-century against Chennai Super Kings.
