Just like Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy, his principles are here to stay, and
it was well proved by an Urdu teacher in Rajasthan, Thakur Shamsher Bhalu Khan
who embarked on a modern day ‘Dandi March’ to seek a better deal for language
teachers in the state’s schools and madarsas.

“I have nine demands, including the regularisation of
madarsa teachers, recruitment of Urdu teachers in schools and the
implementation of the PM’s 15-point programme for minorities,” Khan said on
Monday as per a PTI report.

The march that stared from Churu in Rajasthan towards
Gujarat’s Dandi was called off midway on Sunday, after Government’s assurance
of considering his demands.

Dandi is a
place where Mahatma Gandhi broke the salt law in 1930 as way of protest against
the unjust salt regulations by the British.

Khan, a teacher at government school of Sehjusar in Churu, discussed
the matter with the government officials in Udaipur in a meeting organised by Rajasthan
Waqf Board chairman Khanu Khan Budhwali on Sunday.

“I got assurance from
officials that the state government will look into the demands. After assurance
from them, I called off the agitation and now I am looking forward to meeting the
education minister,” PTI quoted Khan as saying.

Shamsher, who is the son of
former Congress MLA Bhalu Khan, told PTI that he was accompanied by nearly 40
people during the march and received tremendous support from the minority
community.
