The heavy
rainfall on Monday has brought the Bengaluru airport to a standstill. This also
exposed the lack of planning, poor drainage system and preparedness of the
civic agencies once again.

Road to the
Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International airport was waterlogged due to heavy rain
lashed the city throughout Monday.  Several
taxis and private vehicles were stranded on the roads leading to the terminals
as many passengers waited with luggage.

Passengers
were left with no choice so they were forced to take a tractor rides to reach
at airport. Many videos went viral on social media in which it was clearly
visible that many passengers are reaching the airport with the help of tractors.

After heavy
rains, a man was killed due to a short circuit in a flooded house, on the
outskirts of Konappana Agrahara in Bangalore.

“There
were two people in the house, the second person managed to escape unhurt,”
said Dr Sanjeev M Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police – West Division,
Bengaluru City.

Karnataka is
likely to experience widespread rainfall over the next four days due to the
spread of cold over the Arabian Sea to the east and a ship passing through.
Bengaluru showers are expected to have a medium to large scale. The rains are
not expected to affect parts of the northern part of the state despite a
general warning

Meanwhile,
India’s Ministry of Meteorology has also predicted that heavy rains will hit
the coast and South South Karnataka by 15 October.

Flights
departing between 10 pm to 11 pm were delayed due to adverse weather conditions
while incoming flights were directed to go around, However, there was no issue
while landing as the tarmac was not flooded. Flights headed to Chennai,
Pune, Hyderabad, Mangaluru, Mumbai, Kochi, and Panaji were delayed. 

While
airport police and teams affiliated with Bangalore International Airport
Limited (BIAL) had a difficult time managing the situation and planning
alternatives.
