A Test match in cricket is a five-day affair but India has beaten England in the third Test of the ongoing test series in just two days. Although this is the shortest Test since World War II, surprisingly enough, it is only the third shortest completed test in cricket history.

So let’s find who takes the cake in the shortest completed Test? Here is a list:

Australia vs South Africa (1932): This game lasted just 5 hours and 53 minutes. When South Africa came out to bat, little did anyone know that the affair will be over in just about 6 hours. Pitch looked harmless and nothing was out of sorts but Australia bundled the Proteas for just 36. Though the Aussies just managed 153 in their innings which at that time was their lowest score, they still managed to beat South Africa by an inning and 76 runs by skittling them for 45.

West Indies Vs England (1935)

Rain was the principal factor in a low-scoring match on a treacherous surface. English put the West Indies in on a rain-affected pitch and half the side were out for 31 and full team at 102. England in turn collapsed to 81 for five by the end of the first day. Overnight rain then saturated the wicket to such an extent that play could not resume until after tea on the second day, and then England declared the innings 21 runs behind. West Indies declared at just 51/6, setting England just 73 to win. England deployed their tail-enders to try and blunt the West Indies attack. The move did not work, but Hammond with an unbeaten 29 and Hendren with 20 saw England through to victory.

India Vs England (2021): The recently concluded Test between India and England comes in the third place. With England’s first innings collapsing on a total of 112, India in the second innings tried to build their innings, but failed and were limited to a total of 145. The visitors, in their second innings were yet again bowled out, this time to an even lower total of 81. The Indian opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill bridged the 49-run gap, winning the match for India with all 10 wickets in hand.
