An avalanche near a power project at Raini village in Tapovan area of Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, resulted in sudden rise in water level in Dhauliganga river, causing heaving flooding in surrounding areas. People living on the banks of the river have been evacuated. 

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police said that the flood destroyed many homes in the river bankside and people are feared dead.

Meanwhile, several videos on social media showed the flooded water body destroying several buildings on the banks. 

Chamoli police said the Rishiganga Power Project has been damaged and people living on the bank of Alaknanda river have been advised to move to safe places at the earliest.
