Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg on Tuesday extended her support for the farmer’s agitation at Delhi’s various border points against the three contentious agriculture reform laws passed by the central government last year.

Taking to Twitter, the teenage campaigner, who has been nominated for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, shared a news article on the ongoing protest and said, “We stand in solidarity with the #FarmersProtest in India”.

This hours after comes after international pop star Rihanna also came out in support of the farmers’ movement.

“Why aren’t we talking about this?!” Rihanna wrote in a tweet, wherein she shared the same CNN article as Thunberg, which highlights the shutdown of internet services in the national capital in light of the protests.

The tweet got mixed reaction from Bollywood stars, with Kanagana Ranaut slamming the global icon while Swara Bhasker lauded her initiative.

Earlier, 18-year-old Thunberg had also expressed her views against the NEET and JEE exams in 2020.

In a tweet in August, she said, “It’s deeply unfair that students of India are asked to sit national exams during the Covid-19 pandemic and while millions have also been impacted by the extreme floods. I stand with their call to #PostponeJEE NeetinCOVID”.

Thousands of farmers, primarily from the states of Punjab and Haryana, have been camped in various border points around Delhi for over two months in protest against the agriculture reform laws passed during the Monsoon session of the Parliament last year.

Security measures have been beefed up at the border protest sites in Delhi, with multi-layered barricades, barbed wire fence and other measures put in place to restrict the influx of protestors.

The fortification of the security comes in light of the violence that unfolded during the tractor rally on Republic Day, wherein one farmer died and hundreds of police personnel were injured.
