BCCI will be discussing about adding two new teams to Indian Premier
League, the world’s richest T20 event, in its annual meet this month, AFP
reported.

Delayed three times because of the coronavirus pandemic, IPL this year
was finally played behind closed doors in the United Arab Emirates, but drew record
television and digital viewership.

BCCI Treasurer Arun Dhumal said while speaking to AFP, that adding two
new teams was among the agenda in the December 24 annual meeting.

“We
will discuss it with the members and see what their views are and then take a
call,” AFP quoted Dhumal as saying.

With
an estimated brand value of $6.8 billion, certain individual matches in the IPL
drew more than 200 million viewers in India alone.

According
to reports, Indian conglomerates Adani Group and RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group who in
the past entered the competition on the backs of Rising Pune Supergiants, are
interested in new teams.

According
to AFP, also on the agenda will be BCCI’s stand on including cricket in the
2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

International
Cricket Board (ICC) favours supporting the cricket to become an Olympic sport,
but the BCCI, markedly wealthiest among the major cricketing nations, has been reluctant
about the move.
