Twitter will revise how it verifies accounts, according to a tweet made by Elon Musk on Sunday.
“Whole verification process is being revamped right now” Musk’s tweet said. He hasn’t clarified exactly how the process will change.
Tech newsletter Platformer reported on Sunday that the social media platform is considering charging for the blue tick mark that verifies the identity of an account holder.
It’s possible that in order to be verified, users will need to subscribe to the platform’s premium service, Twitter Blue which costs users $4.99 a month.

Twitter Blue launched last year in June as the platform’s first subscription service which offers “exclusive access to premium features.” It is a monthly service that provides subscribers to a host of benefits, including the option to edit tweets, a feature which was made available earlier this month.
The edit feature was released shortly after a Twitter poll by Musk asked his followers whether they wanted an edit button. 70% said yes.
In addition to the potential changes to how verification will work, Musk has also asked that users who aren’t logged into Twitter be directed to the Trends page, which shows what is trending on the social media site, the Verge reported, citing people who were familiar with the request.
Musk completed his takeover of Twitter on October 27 and immediately fired top Twitter executives like Chief Executive Officer Parag Agarwal, Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal and head of legal, policy and trust Vijjaya Gadde.

Late last week the tech billionaire announced that the social media company will be forming a “content moderation council with widely diverse viewpoints. He added that no “content decisions” or “account reinstatements” would happen without the go ahead from the council. Musk later made it clear that despite the announcement, no changes had been made to the content moderation policies.
