Ravindra Jadeja, the captain of the Chennai Super Kings, on Tuesday pipped the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Ashish Nehra to become the most successful bowler against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The 33-year-old took three wickets for 39 runs to hand Faf du Plessis’ men a 23-run defeat at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai

Jadeja now has more wickets than Bumrah (24) and Ashish Nehra (23) against RCB. The Chennai Super Kings spinner’s tally stands at 26 wickets.

Jadeja surpassed the two when he dismiseed RCB’s Glenn Maxwell, Wanindu Hasaranga and Akash Deep on Tuesday.

The left-arm off-spinner knocked Maxwell’s stump with a 97.3kph non-turner. The Aussie went on the backfoot to pull but the ball skid in to crash into the off-stump. Against Hasaranga, Jadeja executed a 98.6kph delivery luring the batter to move towards the leg-side and take a swing. However, he was caught at long-on. Akash Deep’s dismissal was more about Ambati Rayudu’s out of no where catch. The CSK skipper delivered at good length, which was pushed towards the covers only to see Rayudu take a spider-man catch.

Young Maheesh Theekshana was one more CSK bowler who impressed. The Sri Lankan spinner took four wickets for 33 runs.

Driven by Shivam Dube (96) and Robin Uthappa’s (88) 165-run stand in the first innings, Chennai Super Kings posted a 216-run total. Hit by spinners, RCB were restricted to 193 runs.

This was Jadeja’a first win as captain.

“First of all, this is the first victory as a captain ever. I would like to dedicate to my wife because first victory is always special,” Jadeja said in the post-match presentation.

“Previous four games, we couldn’t cross the line. But as a team, we came good. As a captain, I am still picking brains of the senior players. Mahi bhai is there, I always go to him and discuss. Moulding into a new role, it’ll take time to get things going. I am still learning and trying to get better with each game.”

Jadeja added that the team didn’t panic despite losing four successive matches.

“Our management don’t put pressure on me, they are relaxed, they always come to me and motivate. We have plenty of experience in our dressing room.”
