Delhi Capitals‘ splendid performance with both the ball and the bat helped them defeat Punjab Kings by nine wickets in the 32nd match of the 2022 Indian Premier League at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Sent to bat first, Delhi’s spin bowling troika of Kuldeep Yadav, Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel bundled out Punjab for a paltry 115. The top score for Punjab was keeper-batter Jitesh Sharma’s 32 off 23 balls with skipper Mayank Agarwal scoring 24. None of the other batters could cross the 20-run mark.

In reply, opening pair of David Warner and Prithvi Shaw (41) got Delhi to a great start with the former smashing his 53rd IPL half century. He stayed unbeaten on 60 off just 30 balls and carried his side to 119 in just 10.3 overs.

“The bowlers did a fantastic job to make ours easier. We had to go big in the powerplay, credit to our bowlers to getting them out. I was just trying to be positive and am happy to have played with Shaw,” Warner said.

Punjab, which has played seven matches and has also won three games, slipped to the 8th spot in the points table.

“We did not bat or bowl well and we have to put this behind,” Agarwal said of Punjab’s heavy loss. “Losing too many wickets too early, but I do not want to dig too deep as the more we do it, the more the negatives that will come.”
