During a
discussion on the pre-match show of IPL host broadcaster Star Sports, Mohammed
Kaif mentioned Shreyas Iyer and remarked that his captaincy powered his old
side Delhi Capitals to the final of the 2020 season.

Former India
spin bowler Harbhajan Singh however disagreed with the comment asked if “the
rest of the players are playing gulli-danda?”. He also brought up a comparison between
India and Australia. “When Australia wins the World Cup, the headlines are: ‘Australia
won the World Cup.’ When India won the World Cup at that time, everyone said MS
Dhoni won the World Cup. Toh baaki ke 10 waha lassi peene gaye the? What did
the other 10 players do? What did Gautam Gambhir do? What did the others do?”

India last
won the ODI Cricket World Cup in 2011, and MS Dhoni’s match-winning six against
Sri Lanka in the final has gone down in cricket history. Many experts and fans regard
the former India captain as a significant player in the victory, owing to his
captaincy as well as his decision to bat earlier than normal in the crucial
final match. Singh who was also part of the team that won the World Cup believes
the win was possible only due to teamwork and not individual performances.

Shreyas Iyer
is currently captaining Kolkata Knight Riders after Delhi Capitals elected not
to keep him and instead appointed Rishabh Pant as the franchise’s official
captain. Pant’s DC triumphed in this season’s matchup between the two clubs. A
fearless opening partnership between Prithvi Shaw and David Warner laid the
foundation for DC as they beat KKR by 44 runs. The two had to face one of the most lethal pace attack in the competition containing Kuldeep Yadav and Umesh Yadav. The decision to give DC to go in
and bat backfired as they hit 215 for five. In contrast KKR were all-out for
171 in 19.4 overs. Kuldeep Yadav wrecked havoc as he took 4 wickets in 4 overs
to aid DC to a win.
