Miami Dolphins starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was carted off the field in the second quarter of the Week 4 game against the Cincinnati Bengals when he suffered head and neck injuries following a tackle. This was the second time the 24-year-old received an injury in consecutive games after he suffered an injury against the Buffalo Bills in the previous week.

The Dolphins quarterback went down on the field after Cincinnati Bengals nose tackle Josh Tupou tackled him. He visibly looked in pain after the tackle as he was soon carted off the field. As per reports, the tackle caused Tua head and neck injuries and he was transported to a level 1 trauma center. It was also revealed that Tua was conscious during transportation.

Miami Dolphins fans criticized the team’s decision to start the quarterback against the Bengals, saying he should not have been active in Week 4 and should have been placed under concussion protocol after his injury against the Bills last week.

After being carted off the field, the Dolphins quarterback was transported to the UC Hospital, a trauma center. He made 8 successful passes out of 14 attempts for 110 yards and 1 interception before he was forced off the field.

Backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater replaced Tua against the Bills and it was him once again who was sent in against the Dolphins on Thursday.

Tua’s parents were present in the stadium to watch the game between the Bengals and the Dolphins on Thursday night. It was also reported that before he was transferred to the trauma center, the Dolphins quarterback asked about the play that resulted in his injury.

US representative for New Jersey’s 9th congressional district, Bill Pascrel, tweeted that he was praying for Tua.

“As founder of the Traumatic Brain Injury Task Force I’m praying for Tua Tagovailoa. Concussions are devastating and as a nation we must do more to protect people with brain injury – that starts with our pro sports leagues. That didn’t happen tonight,” he wrote.

Conservative political commentator and author Nick Adams also criticized the NFL and the Miami Dolphins for allowing Tua Tagovailoa to play against the Bengals on Thursday night.

“Shame on the NFL and Miami Dolphins for allowing Tua Tagovailoa to take the field tonight,” he tweeted.
