Just hours before the NFL trade deadline closes at 4 PM ET on November 1, the Pittsburgh Steelers have traded wide receiver Chase Claypool to the Chicago Bears in exchange for a 2023 second-round pick as reported by ESPN’s Field Yates.
Claypool, a second-round selection from the 2020 NFL Draft, is in the third year of his rookie deal that he signed after being drafted by the Steelers. The deal is worth $6.6 million for a total of four years.

The 24-year-old Claypool has played in all of the Steelers’ eight games this season and has 32 receptions for 311 yards but only has one touchdown to his name. He ran for 55 yards on eight carries and added a touchdown while passing the football to fullback Derek Watt in a 35-13 loss to the unbeaten Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
His best game of the 2022 season came against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when he had seven catches for 96 yards as the team won against the 2021 Super Bowl champions.
The wide receiver joins an offense that also features WRs Equanimeous St. Brown and Darnell Mooney along with QB Justin Fields and RBs David Montgomery and Khalil Herbert.

In his rookie season in 2020, Claypool recorded 62 receptions for 873 yards and nine receiving touchdowns in 16 games to go with two rushing touchdowns. For his performance in Week 5 against the Philadelphia Eagles, when the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated them 38-29, Claypool was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week.
He finished the game with 110 receiving yards and four touchdowns overall (three receiving and one rushing), both career highs. With this, he also made NFL history as the only wide receiver to ever score four touchdowns in the same game and the first rookie in Steelers franchise history to do so.
With three wins and five losses, the Chicago Bears are tied with the Green Bay Packers for third place in the NFC North. Darnell Mooney, the team’s leading receiver, has 364 receiving yards this year.
