India skipper Rohit Sharma etched his name in the record book during the India vs Pakistan clash in 2022 Asia Cup, UAE.

He now has the record of scoring the most runs in T20I cricket. Before this match, he was just 10 runs shy of the record. The 35-year-old has now scored 3487 runs, two more than New Zealand’s Martin Guptill

The India skipper made his T20I debut in 2007 and was also a part of India’s 2007 T20 World Cup winning team. And since then, the Hitman has racked in runs at a strike rate of 140. He now averages around 32 runs in the format. His highest score is 118 runs, which he scored against Sri Lanka at Indore in 2017.

In the second innings against Pakistan, Naseem Shah removed KL Rahul for a golden duck, giving India’s batting a terrible start. While maintaining stability, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli both lost their wickets quickly when the scores reached 50 and 53, respectively. Rohit Sharma got out off spinner Mohammad Nawaz. He got out after scoring just 12 runs off 18 balls. His strike rate in the powerplay over was just 36, his slowest in powerplays that he has faced a minimum of 10 balls. Just an over after the dismissal, Virat Kohli, who is playing is 100th T20I gifted his wicket in a similar fashion to the skipper, reducing India to 53/3.

Earlier in the first innings, India reduced Pakistan for 147. This was the first time in India’s T20I history that pacers have taken all 10 of the team’s wickets. Bhuvneshwar Kumar took the lead by taking four wickets, followed by Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, and Avesh Khan with three, two, and one wickets each.
