Jimmy Garoppolo, the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, was carted off the field in the team’s Week 13 matchup against the Miami Dolphins. The two sides locked horns at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday. He was later ruled out of rest of the game due to the foot injury.

Five minutes into the game, Garoppolo was sacked by Jerome Baker and Jaelan Phillips on third down on San Francisco’s first drive. The quarterback got up slowly and went into the injury tent. The team then took him to the locker room by cart. The Niners said his return was questionable.

Rookie Brock Purdy came into the game to replace Garoppolo to start the second drive. Purdy has thrown just nine passes this season in mop-up duty of a blowout loss to Kansas City in Week 7.

Garoppolo resumed his starting role for San Francisco in Week 2 this season after Trey Lance went down with a season-ending ankle injury.

How did San Francisco play under Jimmy G’s reign?

Garoppolo was handed over the ball passing duty after Lance suffered a broken ankle in the Week 2 game vs the Seattle Seahawks.

In nine games under the quarterback, the team is 6-3, losing to Super Bowl contenders Kansas City Chiefs among others. The team has also been ranked number one in defense for almost the entirety of the season so far.

The 49ers’ defense has now given up just 40 total points during its four-game winning streak after blanking New Orleans Saints. San Francisco’s season-long stats improved after the Saints were held to 63 yards and 2.9 yards per carry by the best NFL run defense.
