Virat Kohli led-Royal Challengers Bangalore succumbed to a six wicket defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the eliminator of the Indian Premier League on Friday, thereby exiting the tournament in the knock-out stages.

Following the match, a dejected Virat Kohli stated that the team’s contribution for the night was not enough to take them across the finish line.

The Virat Kohli-led Bangalore side who are yet to win the cash-rich tournament since its inception in 2008, crashed out following their defeat to Hyderabad.

Kohli termed the 2020 edition of the IPL as “one of the most competitive ever,” and added that no side had a home advantage playing in the United Arab Emirates.

The Bangalore side who last played in the finals of Indian Premier League in 2016, had then fallen to familiar foes Hyderabad. The Virat Kohli-led side who made three appearances in the finals of the world richest cricket tournament, in 2009, 2011 and 2016 are yet to lift the trophy.

Captain Kohli’s bid to win his maiden IPL trophy with the Bangalore side, was derailed by a rejuvenated Hyderabad franchise, who will now play Delhi Capitals in the decider for the final spot of the title match of IPL 2020.

Put into bat first, Kohli’s men scored a paltry 131 in their 20 overs with the skipper faltering with the bat. AB de Villiers was the highest run getter for the Bangalore side on the night, scoring a brisk 55, in an innings that saw the Bangalore batting line-up flounder.

Sunrisers Hyderabad made hard-work chasing the 132 run target as the Orange army lost two quick wickets.Kiwi hard hitter Kane Williamson alongside allrounder Jason Holder played a stellar knock guiding the Hyderabad franchise across the finish line.

Jason Holder, who clinched three wickets on the night and hit the winnings for his side, also hit two fours in the final over to soothe jangled nerves of the Orange army in a tense run chase.

Youngstar Devdutt Padikkal ended the tournament as the highest run scorer for his side, with 473 runs from 15 games. Skipper Kohli and South African hard hitter AB De Villers were the other key run getters for the side.

Amongst RCB bowlers, spin maestro Yuzvendra Chahal completed the tournament with 21 wickets from 15 games, while all rounder Chris Morris was a distant second with 11 wickets to his name.
