Several part of the country are battling the fury of monsoon as
rains continued to lash different part of India. Floods in Assam have claimed
over 100 lives so far and a landslide in Kerala on Saturday killed 43 people. Situation
in Bihar is also worsening day by day.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted
extremely heavy rainfall in Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram
and Alappuzha districts of Kerala.

Red alert in Kerala districts

A red alert has been issued in these districts. Parts of Kerala
have submerged under water.

Meanwhile, incessant rains, landslides and opening of shutters
of dams across rivers have led to rise in water levels in rivers and streams in
central Kerala, aggravating the flood situation.

Flood-like situation in Karnataka

In Karnataka, landslides continued to wreak havoc triggered
by torrential rains on Saturday. Many places in Malnad, coastal and north interior regions
of the state have been affected by deluge, putting life and properties at risk.
There were reports of mudslides near Botlappa and other places in Kodagu, also
along Charmadi ghat near Chikkamagaluru and Dakshina Kannada.

74 lakh affected in Bihar

The flood situation in Bihar remained grim on Sunday as 87,000
more people were affected by the deluge, a Disaster Management Department
bulletin said.

The total number of flood-affected people in the state has risen
to 74 lakh, while deaths caused due to the deluge stood at 23, it said.

The deluge has swamped 1,232 panchayat areas in 125 blocks of 16
districts, the bulletin said.

Darbhanga reported the highest number of flood-related
fatalities at nine, followed by six in Muzaffarpur, four in West Champaran and
two each in Saran and Siwan districts, it said.

Rivers such as Baghmati, Burhi Gandak, Kamlabalan, Adhwara,
Khiroi and Ghaghra are flowing above the danger levels.

Ganga is also flowing 17 cm above the danger mark at Kahalgaon
in Bhagalpur. The river’s water level rose by 1-4 cm at various places in the
state, a bulletin issued by the Water Resources Department said.

The MeT Department here has
forecast light rain on Monday in the catchment areas of all the rivers flowing
through Bihar.

Situation improving in Assam

The flood in Assam maintained a falling trend on Saturday with
the waters ebbing from two districts and remaining in only four affecting 6435
persons, an ASDMA bulletin said. No death due to the natural calamity was
reported from any where in the state during the day.
