In a world of bizarre trends, here comes the most bizarre trend of all. Indian street food lovers were taken aback after a video by Ahmedabad based food blogger Krupali Patel made the rounds on Instagram. In the short video, Patel is seen eating a panipuri that is quite literally, set on fire.

Captioning the video, “Ok bye. Fire panipuri in Ahmedabad”, Patel’s fiery taste in food amused many, but left a bitter aftertaste for most. Some questioned the logic in it, asking Patel “one question, why?” Others called the fire food trend unnecessary. Many seemed to agree that classic food items like panipuri should be left alone, away from the flames, and unnecessary trends.

Despite the confusion and criticism, some seemed to enjoy the video. One user wrote, “Haters gonna hate, but we will always support you girl.”

Mouth-watering street food reels often end up trending on social media, and what makes them trendier are fun new ways of eating a classic snack. Even though they garner lots of hate, the views continue to reach for the sky.

Of late, fire food has been quite a trendy concept, with snacks like momos, paans, and panipuris being set on fire. Starting in Delhi, fiery paans spread across the country, with local sellers shoving paans on fire into their customers’ mouths. Sellers claim to use liquid clove and herbal masala to set the food ablaze. They also claim that these fiery concoctions are great for healing the throat.

While fiery foods continue to amuse us, it is advised to be extra careful while consuming them. There is always a risk of burns.
