Just Jared reports that the photo in question is actually from over a decade ago, stemming from the 2011 Cannes Film Festival in France. During the event, an unidentified man tried to crash the festival and even performed a stunt on the red carpet in honor of French actor Jean-Paul Belmondo, at the screening of The Beaver, as reported by Newsweek. However, as security moved in to apprehend the man, he fell down the stairs.

Did Jason Derulo attend Met Gala 2023?

It turns out that Jason Derulo never fell down the stairs at the Met Gala, and he has never even attended the event. The first version of the joke featuring Derulo was actually a tweet by a since-suspended account called @dashausofjack, which shared a photo of a man falling down the stairs, with the caption “Jason Derulo just fell at #MetGala. LMAO.”

Upon seeing the tweet, Jason Derulo took to Instagram to clarify that he was not the man in the photo and that he was in Los Angeles at the time, writing “Lmao I’m at rehearsal in LA. Fuq ya’ll! Lol.” Despite this, the meme continued to spread on social media, with people sharing it every year during the Met Gala and other red-carpet events.
