The Indian Premier League has been taking place for over 14 years and has featured some of the world’s fastest bowlers. Umran Malik, a pacer for Sunrisers Hyderabad, has recently made a name for himself with his speed and accuracy.

Here’s a look at the all-time list:

Shaun Tait (157.71 kmph)

Shaun Tait
was regarded as one of the fastest bowlers of his generation. With his speed
and bounce, he could rain down thunderbolts and rattle batters. His career was
plagued by injuries, and he was in and out of the lineup on a regular basis.
Tait, on the other hand, had a respectable IPL career. He appeared in 21 games
for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) over four seasons (2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013).
Over the course of four years, he took 23 wickets. In 2011, he set the record
for the fastest delivery in IPL history. Tait hit Aaron Finch, who was playing
for the Delhi Daredevils at the time, with a 157.7 kmph delivery. Even after a
decade, the former Australian fast bowler is still active.

Umran Malik (157 kmph)

Umran Malik of Jammu set yet another record in the Indian Premier League when he delivered a 157-kilometer-per-hour delivery against the Delhi Capitals on Thursday, May 5 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Umran broke his own records of 154.8 kmph and 156 kmph, which he had set earlier in the game.

Anrich Nortje (154.4 kmph)

Anrich
Nortje
stunned everyone during the 2020 edition of the IPL. He consistently
clocked over 150 kph and rattled the batters for pace. The batsmen simply
couldn’t get him away because they were frequently rushed.

Nortje has
also produced balls with speeds of 154.74 kmph, 154.21 kmph, and 153.72 kmph.
All of these deliveries occurred during the 2020 season, and Nortje’s
performance (22 wickets) was a major reason why the Delhi Capitals reached the
final that year. Even in the IPL 2021, Nortje was the tournament’s fastest
bowler.

Dale Steyn (154.4 kmph)

It comes as
no surprise that Dale Steyn is among the bowlers who have bowled some of the
fastest deliveries in IPL history. He is widely regarded as one of the best
fast bowlers of his generation. Steyn has been supremely consistent in both
red-ball and white-ball cricket.

He not only
picks wickets, but also unleashes some devastating thunderbolts. He was by far
one of the fastest in his peak, and he could consistently exceed 150 kmph.
Steyn has one of the fastest deliveries in IPL history. He sent down a ball
that clocked 154.40 kmph in the 2012 season while playing for the now-defunct
Deccan Chargers, which is the fifth-fastest in the history of the Indian T20
league.

Kagiso
Rabada (154.23 kmph)

Kagiso
Rabada
has been outstanding in the IPL over the last three seasons. He is one
of the reasons why the Delhi Capitals have been so successful since the start
of the 2019 season. The premier South African fast bowler took 25 wickets from
12 games in the 2019 season but narrowly missed out on the Purple Cap due to an
injury near the end of the season.

Rabada has
also consistently surpassed the 150 kmph mark in recent years. The pacer has
gone over 150 kmph 16 times in the history of the IPL, according to statistics
on iplt20.com. A couple of those deliveries also made the top ten. One of them
was a 154.23 kmph delivery, putting him in the top five. Another was 153.91
kmph.

Lockie Ferguson (153.84 kmph)

Lockie
Ferguson
is currently one of the fastest bowlers in world cricket. He has been
one of New Zealand’s top white-ball bowlers for several years and has bowled
some fiery deliveries in international cricket. He hasn’t played many games in
the IPL, having appeared in just 14 games over three seasons (2017, 2019 and
2020).

While
Ferguson didn’t have great returns in the 2017 and 2019 seasons, taking five
wickets in nine games, he was quite good in the 2020 season, taking six wickets
at an economy rate of 7.46. Ferguson recorded one of the fastest deliveries in
IPL history during the 2020 season. During the season, he averaged 153.84 kmph,
ranking him among the top ten fastest deliveries.

Jofra Archer (153.62 kmph)

It goes
without saying that Jofra Archer is a dangerous bowler to face due to the pace
he generates. He’s only been around for a few years, but he’s already rattled
multiple batters around the world with his lightning-fast deliveries. Archer
has troubled the batsmen with his blistering pace, clocking more than 150 kmph
on several occasions. In one of the games, he recorded a delivery at a speed of
153.62 kmph, which places him among the top ten fastest deliveries in IPL
history.
