Aldi is a cheap retailer with headquarters in Germany and around 2,000 stores spread across 36 states.

Aldi asserts that its costs are 50% cheaper than those of conventional stores. The pricing at Aldi are about 15% less expensive than those at Walmart, according to independent studies conducted in cities like Houston and Chicago.

Aldi became the third-largest grocery retailer by store count last year as a result of its cheaper costs, making it the fastest-growing supermarket chain in the United States. The top two positions are currently held by Walmart and Kroger, respectively. According to the National Retail Federation, Aldi has sales of about $135 billion and is ranked fourth overall.

In an agreement with parent firm Southeastern Grocers, Aldi will likely acquire around 400 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket locations in the Southeast, the retailer revealed on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the transaction includes 400 grocery stores in the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi. The transaction should be completed in 2024.

Aldi CEO Jason Hart stated in a news release that “the time was right to build on our growth momentum and help residents in the Southeast save on their grocery bills.”

According to Hart, the corporation will transform some sites into Aldi chains while maintaining operations at other Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket locations.

“Aldi shares our vision to provide exceptional quality, service and value – and this unique opportunity will evolve our business to benefit our customers, associates and neighbors throughout the Southeast,” Southeastern Grocers President and CEO Anthony Hucker said.

According to its website, there are 2,304 Aldi stores open right now in 39 states.
