American film director James Gunn said on Saturday that he “definitely would” like to work on a solo project of DC’s famed character Harley Quinn, which is currently played by Australian actress Margot Robbie.

Gunn, who is famed for his work on Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, has been given the responsibility of DC’s ‘Suicide Squad’ sequel, which is set to release in August later this year. Robbie will be playing the role of Harley Quinn in the movie after garnering high praise in its 2016 prequel.

Gunn spoke recently spoke positively about his experience with Robbie on the sets of ‘Suicide Squad’, reported Movieweb.

Gunn spoke about his willingness to direct a Harley Quinn spinoff on his Instagram while taking questions from followers. One asked if Gun would ever consider making a stand-alone Harley Quinn film, to which he replied “I definitely would yes”.

How likely is a James Gunn-directed Harley Quinn movie?

Even though no formal plans have been announced by the DC so far about a solo movie, or series, that features Harley Quinn, a character that was a fan favourite after the first edition of ‘The Suicide Squad’ was released.

However, at the moment, a Harley Quinn special seems to be unlikely as Gunn is currently preoccupied with completing the third part of Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, which is likely to be released by May 2023.

Moreover, an animated series of Harley Quinn is currently underway and has already released two seasons. The DC character in the animated show is given a voiceover by ‘The Big Bang Theory’ star Kaley Cuoco.
