According to Gwinnett County Police, there was a stabbing and a shooting at Macy’s in the Mall of Georgia.

Police reported that the victim was a Macy’s employee. Police classified their wounds as “serious,” but their condition was unknown.

The public relations officer for Gwinnett Police, Sgt. Jennifer Richter, confirmed that the subject was shot by a Gwinnett officer. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation added that it had been requested to look into a shooting involving an officer.
The suspect is in stable condition, according to Richter.

The suspect damaged the jewellery counter with a “crowbar or similar object” during what police believe was an attempted robbery inside Macy’s, they added. According to Richter, the suspect was allegedly “trying to get merchandise.”

According to authorities, the call came in around 11:30 am. The suspect was apprehended by police while he was running away from Macy’s, close to the intersection of Mall of Georgia Blvd. and Financial Center Way.
“Active Investigation: The Gwinnett Police Department is working an active scene at the Macy’s located at The Mall of Georgia (3333 Buford Drive). Please avoid the area at this time,” the Gwinnett County Police tweeted.
Roads near the mall are not accessible at the moment. The mall-area Buford Drive exits from I-85 have been shut down.
Georgia Department of Transportation tweeted, “There is police activity on the I-85 N/S exits to SR 20/Buford Dr. leaving both ramps blocked. Avoid travel in this direction and use alt. routes.”
