Isiah Baez has been arrested for the brutal killing of DeAndre Matthews, a 19-year-old boy whose body was found in Midwood on February 7. Matthews’ family reported him missing on February 7, only to know days later that he had been found dead on train tracks near Nostrand Avenue.

Authorities said Matthews’ body was severely burned and had a gunshot wound to the head. The medical examiner also reported that Matthews had suffered from smoke inhalation.

Matthews’ family had initially expressed the belief that he was murdered because he was gay. However, the New York Police Department said that there is no information regarding the motive for the killing.

Who is Isiah Baez?

Isiah Baez was charged with murder, weapon possession, and evidence tampering in the murder of DeAndre Matthews, according to police. He does not face any charges related to hate crime. He is 19 years old.

“I’m lost for words. I’m shocked. Murder? I don’t know anything about it. He’s only 19,” said Baez’s mother said.

Baez called her mother saying that he was at the 70th Precinct stationhouse without explaining why.

On May 4, another man named Mcprecia Remy was taken into custody and charged with concealment of a corpse and tampering with physical evidence. He is 24 years old and loves nearby Baez.

Baez lives in Flatlands, around a half mile away from the railbed off Flatbush Avenue and Avenue H where the corpse was found Matthews’ body.

Baez’s mother said “He has family that is gay so why would he do that? That doesn’t make any sense.”

The suspect and the victim have been talking for more than a year and there were pictures of the two of them on DeAndre Matthews’ phone, Matthews’ mother said.

She said police officers told her Baez called Remy to help him get rid of Matthews’ body.
