Who is Karen Ivery?

Karen Ivery, born in 1986, is a resident of Blue Ash, Hamilton County, Ohio.

In a video obtained by the Daily Mail captured the moment a Target security officer hit Ivery in the face after she requested that the business pay her $1,000 food bill in “reparations.”

Zach Cotter, a security guard, was captured on video punching Ivery at Target in Ohio, in October last year after she became ‘hostile’ with a manager.

Cotter is shown on store CCTV intervening after an altercation with a manager when Ivery stated she wanted the store to pay for her purchases as “reparations.”

Cotter claimed he was acting in self-defense and told investigators that she ‘charged’ at him after the incident. She was later arrested and charged with Menacing and Disorderly Conduct.

A number of towns and governments are pursuing their own versions of reparations for slavery, which has become a subject of heated debate and growing political relevance.

When Ms. Ivery requested that her $1,000 grocery bill be compensated, the cashier summoned her over, according to the manager’s post-incident statement. Ivery allegedly told her that she was “owed” this because she lived a “privileged life.”

The manager advised her to call in the morning if she wanted a donation. She claimed that as a result, she started using abusive language.

The woman was seen in the store’s CCTV footage moving aggressively in the direction of the manager before putting her hands up and ducking behind a neighboring counter.

Cotter is then seen sprinting across the store to break up the fight.

In an aggressive interaction with Cotter, Ivery stated – ‘This is my Rosa Parks moment.’

He allegedly begged her to calm down before backing him into the security office, as seen on camera. As Ivery approaches him inside the office, he continues to back away. Cotter then hits her in the face, knocking her to the floor and scattering her stuff over the room. The video then shows him calling the cops on his cell phone.

Ivery was identified as the aggressor in the encounter according to a police report. Ivery was fined $110 for disorderly conduct and given a one-day jail sentence.
