Two environmental activists were detained after vandalizing the $300 million superyacht Kaos, owned by Walmart heiress Nancy Walton Laurie, by dousing it in crimson and black paint.

The Spanish-based environmental organization Futuro Vegetal uploaded images of the incident on its website. Two members of the group can be seen in one of the photos holding a sign that reads, “You Consume Others Suffer,” in front of the yacht.

“We spray painted using fire extinguishers against the 300 million euro mega-yacht of Nancy Walton, heiress to #Walmart and one of the richest women in the world with a fortune of 8.7 billion dollars,” they claimed on Twitter.

Who is Nancy Walton Laurie?

Nancy Laurie is an American billionaire and an heir to the Walmart fortune. She is the owner of the $300 superyacht Kaos, which was trashed by environmental activists. Laurie cruised to the UK on Kaos in May 2023.

Nancy Walton is the younger daughter of Bud Walton, Walmart founder Sam Walton’s brother and business partner. She and her sister Ann Walton Kroenke received a share of Walmart from Bud after he died, which is today worth over $9 billion.

Nancy Walton Laurie founded the Chi Omega sorority’s Nancy Walton Laurie Leadership Institute. She was also the president and founder of the Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet, a New York City dance group that shut down in 2015. The Columbia Performing Arts Centre, a dancing facility in Columbia, Missouri, is owned by her.

Nancy lives majorly in the Las Vegas Valley with her husband, Bill Laurie, and has mansions in Henderson, Nevada, and Bel Air, California. The couple also has homes in Columbia, Missouri, where they run an equine farm and raise appaloosa horses. Laurie uses “at least 2.3 million gallons (8.7 million liters) per year” to water her Bel Air estate, according to the Centre for Investigative Reporting.

Kaos, which is registered in Jamaica, is 360 feet long and 4,523 tonnes heavy. It was previously called ‘Jubilee’ and was constructed in the Netherlands in 2017. According to the Yachtbible, British designer Reymond Langton refurbished and refitted Nancy Walton Laurie’s superyacht in 2020.

Laurie is believed to frequently travel throughout Europe and the Mediterranean on her superyacht with her husband and daughter Paige Laurie. This superyacht and Jeff Bezos’ £400 million superyacht were both built by Oceanco.
