Amazon Quiz: The new Naval Ensign of India bears the seal of which emperor?

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj

Akbar

Ashoka

Rajaraja I

Answer: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj

India’s new naval ensign bears the stamp of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The new ensign started being used from September 2. The new ensign replaces one that featured the George’s Cross. The Indian government’s decision to change the naval ensign is a bid to free the country of its colonial past that hangs over the billion-strong nation 70-plus years after independence.

The current ensign features India’s national flag in the canton on a white field. There is also a navy blue-gold octagon on the fly. This octagon comes with two golden borders and a navy blue background and encompasses the crest of the Indian Navy.

In terms of symbolism, the octagon represents India’s marine power. The presence of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on the naval seal is a tribute to the Maharashtra emperor who laid the groundwork for India’s naval design prior to the British coming to the helm of affairs.
