Red Bull’s driver, Sergio Perez won the Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix 2022. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who placed second, was overtaken by Perez by 7.5 seconds at the finish line. Carlos Sainz of Ferrari seized third place. Max Verstappen, Perez’s teammate and the victor of the Italian GP in 2022, came in ninth. Hamilton earned a ninth-place finish. Verstappen needed a victory and other outcomes to go his way in order to win the world championship for a second time in a row.
Leclerc’s push in the final laps was aided by Perez’s engine troubles, but after Perez adjusted his engine settings, Leclerc made a mistake that put him two seconds down. Perez, however, is being looked into by the stewards following the race for a safety car infraction. Lewis Hamilton was one of many drivers who were caught off guard when these gladiators at the top of the motor racing world lumbered awkwardly into the barriers in the harsh light of floodlights.
After an hour-long delay in starting due to heavy rain, Pérez earned a deserving victory after taking the lead from Leclerc off the line and maintaining it the entire race. There were no faults; in fact, he resisted Leclerc’s intense pressure in the fourth quarter and created enough of a distance to avoid the penalty that his teammates had warned him may be assessed. The Mexican was aware that he deserved to win.
“It was certainly my best performance,” Perez declared. “The last few laps was so intense I didn’t feel it that much in the car but when I got out I felt it. I gave everything for the win.”
