Answer: Istanbul

Istanbul is a city rich in history, culture, and natural beauty. Originally known as Byzantium, the city’s name was changed to Constantinople in 324 CE when it was reconstructed by Constantine, the first Christian Roman Emperor. The word “Istanbul,” derives from Greek and might be rendered as a corruption of “to the city.” While the phrase had been in use for centuries, it did not become the official name of the city until the Republic of Turkey was established in the 1920s.

Istanbul, the most populated city in Europe, serves as Turkey’s financial and cultural hub, firmly straddling the borders between Asia and Europe as it has for millennia: the result of combining historic Christendom, a mediaeval metropolis, and the modern Middle East. Istanbul, located on either side of the Bosphorus, preserves its metropolitan status: the city’s population exceeds 14 million people, making it one of the world’s largest cities.

This city is known as “the second Rome.”

While prehistoric human settlement artefacts were discovered in the Yarmburgaz Cave near Küçükçekmece Lake and during the construction of a metro station in Yenikap, Greek colonists from Megara, led by their legendary leader Byzas, have historically been acknowledged as the founders of Istanbul. By the decree of the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great, the imperial city of Constantinople expanded the old Greek colony of Byzantium and became the strongly guarded capital of the Eastern Roman (after termed Byzantine) Empire for nearly a thousand years.
