Akshata Narayan Murty, the wife of UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, an Indian fashion designer based in the UK, was born on April 1st, 1980. She is the daughter of Sudha Murthy and N. R. Narayana Murthy, who founded the global Indian information technology company, Infosys.
While her parents, Sudha Murty and N. R. Narayana Murthy, launched their technological company, Infosys, Murty was nurtured in Hubli by her paternal grandparents. Her mother, who is now a philanthropist and a member of the Gates Foundation, was the first female engineer to work for the largest automobile manufacturer in India at the time. When she was two years old, her parents moved the family to Mumbai. She has one sibling, Rohan Murty.
Murty attended Claremont McKenna College in California to study economics and French after completing her high school education at Bangalore’s Baldwin Girls’ High School. She also holds a Master of Business Administration from Stanford University and a diploma in apparel manufacture from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising.
In August 2009, after meeting at Stanford University, Murty married Rishi Sunak. Anoushka and Krishna, their daughters, are aged 9 and 11, respectively. They also jointly own an apartment on Old Brompton Road and Kirby Sigston Manor, a Grade II listed mansion in Kirby Sigston, Yorkshire.
