R. Praggnanandhaa is an Indian chess Grandmaster. He won the Paracin open A chess tournament 2022 in Serbia. He scored 8 points from nine rounds. The 16-year-old remained unbeaten and finished half a point ahead of the field. 

Alexandr Predke took the second spot with 7.5 points ahead of Alisher Suleymenov and India’s AL Muthaiah, both scored 7 points.  Suleymenov grabbed third place on the basis of a better tie-break score.

The Olympiad- bound Praggnanandhaa won his first six games before Predke held on for a draw in round seven. He subsequently beat fellow GM Arjun Kalyan in the eighth round before signing off with a new draw against Alisher Suleymenov in the ninth and final round. 

The teenager Grandmaster also recorded wins over fellow Indian Srija Seshadri, Lachezar Yordanov (Bulgaria), Kazybek Nogerbek, compatriot Koustav Chatterjee, and Arystanbek Urazayev (Kazakhstan). 

He is the youngest player to defeat current world champion Magnus Carlsen. He beat Magnus Carlsen in a rapid game at the Airthings Masters Rapid Chess Tournament. 

He defeated Carlsen again in the Chessable Master online rapid chess tournament in May 2022 and advanced to the finals. 

His world ranking is 112. He earned the international master title at the age of 10 and the Grandmaster title at the age of 12.
