Honouring the collective contempt for this particular day, Guinness World Records tweeted, “we’re officially giving monday the record of the worst day of the week.”

We concur

The Twitter thread was then swarmed with users appreciating and agreeing with the announcement. One user simply wrote, “Agreed,” accompanied by a meme.

The official Red the Angry Bird handle tweeted, “took you long enough.”

Another user visually represented the impact, as they wrote “After a 30 seconds weekend, this is how Monday slaps us hard,” with an attached illustration.

“Petition for Mondays to be banned so after the next Monday we will be Tuesday, we ban that also because it following Sunday, so Everyday After Sunday will be banned and we only have a Sunday,” one user stipulated in their tweet.

ARMY hijack

BTS ARMY was quick to hijack this conversation. They started talking about the band’s decision to enlist in the South Korean military and how their absence from public life would affect the fans.

“even the world record are sad bcs of enlistment,” one user wrote. “like this very specific Monday right? like Oct 17, 2022. bc yeah,” wrote another. One user started a countdown with, “19700 hours to go.” “Actually this Monday 17 October 2022 is the worst day,” noted another.

Why is Monday hated so much?

There is no science behind it. No logic. No statistics. What there is however is a resounding collective experience that we find around all of us.

The rhythm of the weekends alters mostly on Mondays. People get frustrated by this kind of dramatic change since they enjoyed their weekends and then on Monday, they must resume their regular work schedules. On Mondays, this kind of transition agitates people’s resentment. Monday is therefore regarded as the week’s most stressful day.

When a person tries to get set for the upcoming Monday after recovering from a weekend trance, everything looks daunting. Every Monday morning as one considers getting out of bed, it feels as if there is some sort of gravitational force pulling them back. It may seem bizarre, but it’s similar to a hangover that won’t go away unless one stops trying to beat it.
