In Egypt, a man has been arrested for stealing a phone straight from the hands of a person. Mahmoud Ragheb, a reporter for a news site Youm7, was recording the aftermath of an earthquake live when a man on a motorcycle sped past and snatched his phone.

As the alleged thief fled the scene casually smoking a cigarette he unknowingly showed his face off to thousand of viewers.

According to Facebook figures, more than 20,000 people were watching the live stream at the time. As the footage of the incident surfaced on the internet many people joined in the search for the man.

The thief was arrested from his home within a few hours and was taken to Qalyub Police Station where he confessed his crime. His identity was not disclosed.

According to the local media reports, the incident happened on a bridge in Egypt’s fourth-largest city, Shubra Al-Khaimah.

The video has been watched more than 7 million times in less than 24 hours.

The journalist was moving along the side of the bridge with the phone in his hand when the thief came from behind and sped away.

As the video surfaced viewers started mocking the thief for being careless and also clueless that the phone camera was rolling. In the video, the thief was seen looking behind after the snatching. The viewers targeted him for looking behind when “the whole world is watching you”. Another user commented he had “died from laughter.”

On Tuesday, an earthquake of magnitude 6.0 as measured by the US Geological Survey, struck off the Greek island of Karpathos and was felt in nearby countries, including Egypt.
