Margot Robbie, the lead star and producer of Barbie movie, revealed she was “mortified” by the viral set photos of her dressed in character with co-star Ryan Gosling, who plays Ken, that went viral in June. While promoting David O. Russell’s film, Amsterdam, on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Robbie opened up about the leaked production photos.

“I can’t tell you how mortified we were, by the way,” Robbie said.

“We look like we’re like laughing and having fun, but dying on the inside. Dying. I was like, this is the most humiliating moment of my life.”

Photos and videos of Robbie and Gosling on set in matching cowboy outfits and roller skating down Venice Beach in vibrant fluorescent outfits went viral this summer.

“I knew we had some exteriors to shoot in LA,” she told the show’s host, Jimmy Fallon. “Once you start doing exteriors, you’re going to get photographed.” There will probably be a small crowd there who will notice us because of the fluro — we stand out a little in those outfits. So I expected some attention and that some photos would circulate, but not as much as I expected.

Instead, as she and Gosling skated in some bright ’80s workout gear, Robbie revealed that “hundreds of people were watching all the time.” “It was insane,” she continued.

Barbie, written and directed by Greta Gerwig, follows Robbie’s titular doll as she leaves Barbieland and enters the real world. Along with the leaked paparazzi photos, Gosling as Ken was caught on tape shrieking after Barbie punches a man who grabs her rear end while rollerblading. Oscar-winning costume designer Jacqueline Durran created the ’90s neon ensembles that went viral.

Durran collaborated on the costumes for Little Women, for which she won her second Academy Award.

The shooting of the movie wrapped up in july 2022, with a July 2023 release date set.
