Season 13 of India’s biggest quiz show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati‘ (KBC) hosted by veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan will begin on Monday. In the 21 years successful run of the show that brought the Big B of Bollywood to the screen, KBC has become synonymous with Amitabh Bachchan owing to his terrific anchoring skills and the way he converses with the participants. The audience even loves the typical Bachchan shuddh hindi accent.

While most seasons of the show were hosted by Bacchan, the third season saw a shift from Bachchan to Shah Rukh Khan. In 2007, SRK stepped in when Bachchan faced a medical emergency. While the actor, in his inimitable style, charmed his way through people’s hearts, the show fell short on TRPs.

Since then, there have been comparisons between SRK and Bachchan. KBC’s creator Siddhant Basu talked to Indian Express about the reason for the same. Basu said that it’s difficult to match Amitabh Bachchan’s level, who is now the de-facto face of the show.

“I think Shah Rukh did KBC in his own way with charm and wit, and as far as I know, it received good ratings. We have done three shows with SRK, and I believe he is one of the most natural TV hosts who can think on his feet. But let’s face it, Amitabh will always be the ABC of KBC, and on this show, those are very big shoes to fill,” Indian Express quoted Basu as saying.

The only thing that did not work for Shah Rukh as the KBC host was the comparison drawn between him and Big B.

Kaun Banega Crorepati is a Hindi-language Indian television game show. The first episode of the 13th season of KBC will be aired on Monday at 9 pm on Sony TV.
