The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name, is an upcoming American web television special. The special is a sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2, Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War, and Thor: Love and Thunder and a prequel to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Written and directed by franchise vet James Gunn the special will be streaming exclusively on Disney+.
While Marvel fans wait (im)patiently for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, everyone from Marvel to Disney to James Gunn himself has stated that The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will premiere on Disney+ around the holidays in late 2022 as the Director confirms that the upcoming Holiday Special will fit into the overall Guardians timeline. The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will be the conclusion of Phase Four of the MCU.
The upcoming special, directed/written by franchise vet James Gunn, features the cast of renowned actors.
Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/ Star-Lord is the half-Celestial leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy who was abducted from Earth as a child and raised by a group of alien thieves and smugglers called the Ravagers. Zoe Saldana is all set to play Gamora an orphan. Dave Bautista a retired professional wrestler will be playing Drax the Destroyer.
Besides this, Cindy Diesel plays the tree-like humanoid Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as Mantis and lastly Sean Gunn as Kraglin Obfonteri.
While the plot of the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is still unknown, Gunn did share some information on his Twitter account, where he teased the arrival of “one of the greatest MCU characters of all time.” Cryptic as always, Marvel is keeping fans in the dark about the majority of the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.
The Holiday Special, which is set to be released in time for the 2022 holiday season, has already piqued the interest of MCU fans eager to see their favorite dysfunctional family on the big screen again. Knowing that this special will directly connect to previous Phase Three films to help usher in Phase Four is certain to be a game changer, positioning the special up to be more than just a standalone holiday offering.
