The highly-anticipated third season of The Mandalorian has finally arrived, and fans are eagerly anticipating the return of the show’s villain Moff Gideon, played by Giancarlo Esposito.

In the previous season’s finale, Gideon was captured by the New Republic and was set to face justice for his crimes. However, this seems unlikely to spell the end of the character’s story.

In an interview earlier this year, Esposito teased that fans will “get a good amount of Moff Gideon” in the upcoming season. This is great news for fans, as plenty of mysteries surround the character. For example, how did he obtain the Darksaber from Bo-Katan? This could be explained in the new season.

Additionally, Gideon undoubtedly has ties to the future First Order and to Palpatine’s cloning initiative. The New Republic will be eager to extract information from him that could help them uncover the Empire’s plans, and this information could potentially link The Mandalorian to other series within the Star Wars universe.

While Gideon is currently in custody, Esposito has hinted that he could potentially escape, which would set the stage for a new nefarious villain to rise from the ashes. Regardless of the role he plays, Esposito’s presence on the show is a major plus.

Of course, the main question on fans’ minds is when exactly we will see Moff Gideon again. With the series set to explore a number of different storylines, it’s unclear how big of a role the character will play in the new season. However, given his importance to the show’s overall narrative, it seems likely that he will make a significant appearance at some point.
