Thor: Love and Thunder‘ sees Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder try to stop Gorr the God Butcher from slaying all gods. Fearing a confrontation in the Shadow Realm, Thor tries to rally the gods at Omnipotence City. However, Zeus shoots down his plan and subsequent actions set the Greek God of Lightning at loggerheads with the Asgardian.

While at Omnipotence City, where gods reside, viewers see the god of dreams, carpentry, and even Bao the god of dumplings. Before Korg, Valkyrie, and Jane Foster accompany Thor to this place, the Kronan notes that they might meet the god of his people, Ninny of the Nonny.

The group disguise themselves as Emotion gods and walk into the place where all of the divine beings hang out. When moving past one of the figures, Korg points out that it is Ninny of the Nonny, the god of their people.

Director Taika Waititi voices both the god and the subject.

Like Bao, Ninny of the Nonny doesn’t seem to have any basis in Marvel history and is a directorial addition, but fans seem to have taken to him.

The word ninny refers to a silly fellow, while nonny is a meaningless word often used in songs as a refrain. Waititi’s choice of name seems pointed here, considering Korg serves as comic relief.

He sings a song called “Hey Ninny Nonny” while the group travels to the Shadow Realm. This sounds more like a sea shanty than a song associated with the god of Korg’s species.

When Korg was initially added, the character was supposed to appear only in a couple of scenes. However, Hemsworth found the director’s lines funny and suggested that he should add a couple more. Cut to the present, Korg has become a mainstay, even asking Thor for assistance when a kid beat him in Fortnite, in ‘Avengers: Endgame’.
